Libraries Lead the Way to Information Literacy
The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) defines information literacy as, “a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” (ACRL, Information literacy competency standards for higher education, para. 5)
Librarians with their excellent research, digital, and teaching skills have become recognized leaders in this exciting information age and revolution of the 21st century. At the forefront of new technologies and new ideas, the librarians and staff of South Mountain Community College Library are committed to the mission of preparing students for active participation and success in this vital technological age.
The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) supports every department and program on campus. By training our employees to perform their jobs effectively, we can better serve our students. TLC is committed to continuous revitalization and innovation in teaching and learning.
From a faculty standpoint, the TLC serves as a hub for the campus. The center serves as a learning environment where faculty members can explore new technology that best suits their instructional style, and discuss ways to best apply it in their classroom.
