FLY: Financial Literacy for Youth

Get SERIOUS About MONEY

South Mountain Community College and the Joyner-Walker Foundation---led by former Arizona Cardinal and NFL pro Seth Joyner and PGA pro golfer Andy Walker---have teamed up to introduce FLY: Financial Literacy for Youth, a flagship program designed to introduce teens ages 14-17 and young adults 18-25 to money management.

The courses in this program equip high school and college students with the tools necessary to succeed in life, providing learning opportunities leading to prosperity and heightened self-esteem.

Program Includes

  • Series of three money management classes modified with high schoolers in mind
  • Two class sessions per week after school at SMCC Main Campus, 7050 S. 24th Street
  • Opportunity for parents to attend class with their children
  • Hands-on learning, with field trips to financial institutions
  • Full scholarships available for those who qualify - call 602.243.8034 or complete and submit the Financial Literacy Student Application

Learn about personal and family financial planning, including savings, budgeting, credit, and the pros and cons of buying versus renting. Prerequisites: none. 

EPS102 Rich Dad's CASHFLOW
Learn the secrets of money management using the ideas and concepts from Robert Kiyosaki's best-seller Rich Dad Poor Dad, and put them to work by playing the Cashflow 101 (C) game. Prerequisites: none.

GBS261 Investments I
We will explore various ways to invest your money, and study inflation, taxation, government securities, stocks and bonds, real estate and retirement plans. Prerequisites: none.
